The Institute for Sport and Exercise Science within the Faculty of Psychology and Sport Science at Münster University invites applications and nominations for the position of a junior professorship in the area of education and culture in sport and exercise.
The successful candidate will be initially employed for three years as public servant (W1 pay scale). Given a positive interim evaluation, the employment relationship will be prolonged for further three years. After a successful final evaluation, the candidate can be appointed as permanent professor (W2 pay scale). The appointment will be made in accordance with § 38a of the Law on the Universities of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The evaluation will examine whether the performance targets specified at the appointment as junior professor have been met.
The future job holder will represent the topic area of “Education and Culture in Sport and Exercise” in research and teaching. In any case, the candidate is supposed to cover the subject of sport pedagogy. Furthermore, a historical perspective should be taken into account. Other potential topics can be cultural studies on sport, body and exercise, sport philosophy or sport ethics.
Applicants should show a focus on humanities and hermeneutics and take recent conceptual and methodological developments in cultural studies (e.g., ethnographic and praxeological approaches) into account. Furthermore, applicants are expected to be internationally oriented (e.g., international cooperation and publications). Moreover, research of the successful candidate should be compatible with other subdisciplines of sport science, in particular, sport didactics and sport sociology. The applicant should also have experience in the acquisition of third party funding. The future job holder will be responsible for teaching in the modules “Sport Pedagogy and Sport History” and “Education and Culture”. The teaching obligation is four semester hours per week in the first three years and five semester hours per week after the intermediate evaluation up to the final evaluation. Teaching will have to be primarily provided in German.
A prerequisite for the application is a relevant university degree as well as academic achievements, that is, a doctorate and further qualifications gained as part of an academic activity at a university, a research institution etc. in Germany or abroad.
