Unique study of the historical role of the horse in non-European societies

Horse Nations: The Worldwide Impact of the Horse on Indigenous Societies Post-1492 (Oxford University Press) does not, however, cover sports; instead it lays the historical and empirical foundations for studies of competitive equestrianism.
