    The Research Handbook on Major Sporting Events, edited by Harry Arne Solberg, Rasmus K. Storm and Kamilla Swart (Edward Elgar) examines the hosting of major sporting events and the impacts they can have on stakeholders. Christian Tolstrup Jensen has read an impressive compilation of scientific studies in the field of major sport event research that gives the initiated reader a useful and nuanced overview of the state-of-the-art in event studies, its understudied areas and a who-is-who in the field.

    An exemplary collection that captures the essence and intricacies of Nordic football culture

    Mihaly Szerovay and colleagues’ edited collection Football in the Nordic Countries: Practices, Equality and Influence (Routledge) explores football culture, organisation and development in the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden and Norway. To our reviewer Payam Ansari, the anthology offers a rich, multifaceted exploration of football on national, “glocal”, and global levels, making it a valuable addition to the field of sports sociology and a beacon for future research on football.

    An investigation of the role and position of female supporters in Polish football fandom culture

    In Female Fans, Gender Relations and Football Fandom: Challenging the Brotherhood Culture (Routledge), Honorata Jakubowska, Dominik Antonowicz and Radosław Kossakowski assesses the transformation of Polish football fan culture from a gender perspective. In their review, Payam Ansari and Gary Sinclair point out that female fandom in men’s football is not that different from male fandom; however, it takes a bit of effort, and male mentorship, for female fans to be accepted into the stands.
