Public Defense of doctoral thesis | Taking a breather: Do physiological changes induced by growth during puberty outweigh those induced by endurance training in youth athletes? by Halvard Grendstad,...
For his dissertation, Halvard Grendstad investigated how endurance training affects boys and girls aged 12 to 14 years. The participants were recruited from two distinct groups: one group engaged in endurance sports, and another group who was less active and did not participate in endurance training. He tracked their development of maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂max) and assessed their physical growth, including lung size, heart function, and blood volume—key factors for fitness.
Call for Papers | “Beyond Boundaries: Innovating sports coaching through interdisciplinary collaboration”, the 7th Cluster for Research into Coaching (CRiC) International Conference | Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, June...
Join us at the 2025 Cluster for Research into Coaching International Conference (CRiC), where this conference brings together experts, coaches, and innovators to explore novel approaches, share insights, and shape the future of sports coaching through interdisciplinary collaboration. Public Defence of doctoral thesis | After a decade of the Delaware-Oslo ACL Cohort treatment algorithm: Measurement properties and outcomes after reconstruction or rehabilitation alone for anterior cruciate ligament...
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are either treated surgically (with ACL reconstruction; ACLR) or nonsurgically (with rehabilitation alone). High-quality studies are scarce but show similar outcomes after both treatment strategies. However, the treatment choice is only one part of the treatment process: intense rehabilitation, surgical indications, and patient education are also essential. Additionally, ACL patients are a heterogeneous group and do not follow a one-size-fits-all approach.
Public Defence of doctoral thesis | Physical activity, cardiorespiratory fitness and cardiometabolic risk factors from childhood to young adulthood by Anders Husøy, Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, October 9,...
In the UngKan (Youth can do it) follow-up study Anders Husøy sought to examine the trends, levels, and associations of physical activity, cardiorespiratory fitness, and cardiometabolic risk factors from childhood (age 9 years) to adolescence (15 years) and further into young adulthood (age 24 years). In one study, he found that sedentary time increases from childhood to adolescence. A decrease from childhood to adolescence was seen for time spent in light, moderate, and vigorous physical activity.
Public defense of doctoral thesis | Young athletes and performance enhancement: A social-constructivist perspective by Anette Skilbred, Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, June 21, 2024
Anette Skilbred’s dissertation project sheds light on the interaction between young athletes and their networks, with a particular focus on how athletes shape their meaning of performance-enhancing substances within these networks. There is a specific emphasis on nutritional supplements and anti-doping work. By applying an interactionist perspective, she has explored and illuminated processes of meaning-making.
Public defense of doctoral thesis | Physiological and perceived exertion responses to training and match load in football: External and internal load, neuromuscular fatigue, muscle damage, and recovery...
Have you seen football players running around the training field in sports bras over their uniforms? In this "vest", the players have a tracking device that measures distance, speeds, and accelerations, and thus the external load on the body. In periods with a tight match program and many training sessions, this tool can help the players manage how hard they should train and when they should rest. But what does it really mean that a player runs 10,000 m in training or in a match?
Disputas | The Darker Side of Youth Sport: Unraveling Psychosocial Factors Driving Health-Compromising Behaviors Among Adolescent Athletes av Jan Åge Kristensen, Norges idrettshøgskole, 5. mars 2024
