AIESEP’s 2013 Conference on “Physical Education and Sport: Challenging the Future” will be held in Warsaw (Poland) between July 4-7, 2013. Please visit conference website www.aiesep2013.com and learn more about registration, the programme, travel, and accommodation.
Attention all PETE specialists: Registration is now open for the 2013 AIESEP Specialist Seminar, which will take place in Jyväskylä, Finland, on 12th-14th September 2013. The purpose of the Seminar is to explore ‘Ideas around pedagogy in physical education’, as well as better integration between sub-disciplines, with a focus on best practice in physical education teacher education across early childhood, primary and secondary levels. Information on the provisional programme, opportunities to present, registration, and participation packages can be found on the seminar webpage at www.jyu.fi/aiesep2013. As this is a specialist seminar, places are limited 80 participants and registration will close when this limit is reached.
The 2013 Young Scholars have been provided during the 2013 AIESEP International Conference in Warsaw. The winners are :

- Eimear Enright (University of Limerick, Ireland), Lise Cardin (Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan, France), and Joanne O’Flaherty (University of Limerick, Ireland): “Running to stand still?”: A critical analysis of media constructions of physical education in a sample of Irish print media
- Hsin-heng Chen (National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan): Growth trends of federate sport practice. A grounded theoretical understanding of physical education teachers’ professional lives: Responses to educational changes
The Best Poster Awards provided during the 2013 AIESEP International Conference “Physical Education and Sport: Challenging the Future”, organized by the Jozef Pilsudski University of Physical Education are as follow:
- 1st – Cheryl Walter (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, South Africa) – Promoting physical activity at disadvantaged schools in South Africa.
- 2nd – Christin Lang, Anne Karina Feldmeth, Serge Brand, Edith Holsboer-Trachsler, Uwe Pühse, & Markus Gerber (University of Basel, Switzerland) – The effects of a physical education based stress management program on psychosocial well-being among adolescents attending vocational schools.
- 3rd – Ger van Mossel (Dutch Institute for Curriculum Development, The Netherlands) – Free sport in secondary education: an intervention study.
Calling all those interested in early years, classroom teacher, and secondary school physical education teacher education – the electronic registration system for the 2013 AIESEP Specialist Seminar will close on July 31st. The seminar, due to take place at the University of Jyväskylä on September 12th-14th of this year, will focus on discussion around key questions in the area of PETE, as well as future directions and research collaborations. Important information! The planning for the AIESEP World Congress to be held in Auckland, February 10-13, 2014 is well advanced. In addition to the regular program of presentations and symposia there will also be a research training workshopfocused on research ethics, protocols and methods for working with indigenous subjects/populations. Details of this workshop will soon be available on the conference web page (www.aiesep2014.com). Importantly, the closing date forabstracts has now been extended until 31st July. Information about the 2014 AIESEP Young Scholars Awards will be available soon.
In order to enhance the journey to ‘Down Under’, notice that few days after the 2014 AIESEP World Congress in Auckland (February 16 and 17), the College of Education of the University of Canterbury will organize the ‘International Symposium on Physical Education and Sport Studies’ in Christchurch, New Zealand. The theme of the symposium is ‘Physical Education and Sport: Current dilemmas and future possibilities‘. Keynote presentations will be delivered by Dr Heather Sykes and Prof Mike Metzler. Participants are invited to present research related to the symposium focus. There will also be considered time for discussions and debate. Cost for Symposium (including lunches, mornings and afternoon teas): $120NZD (delegates); $60NZD (postgraduate students). The Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies just published its recommendations for (Educating the Student Body: Taking Physical Activity and Physical Education to School). IOM has called upon all of America’s public schools to strengthen and improve programs and policies for physical activity and physical education in the school environment. The Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, University of Copenhagen (Denmark) is offering a PhD scholarship from august 2013. This PhD project is part of the research in the Copenhagen Women Study funded by the University of Copenhagen 2016 initiative.
